In practical production work, we sometimes measure the harmonics of bearings using tools like spectrum analyzers to determine the cause of increased machine vibration. Below, we will introduce the relationship between harmonics and vibration. What are harmonics? What is the fundamental frequency?
Harmonics refer to the multiples of the equipment’s normal operating frequency, where the fundamental frequency is considered as the first harmonic. For example, if a device has a rated speed of 1500 RPM, its fundamental frequency (1st harmonic) would be: 1500/60 = 25 Hz. Therefore, the second harmonic would be 2 times the fundamental frequency, and the Nth harmonic would be N times the fundamental frequency.
The fundamental frequency, also known as the line frequency, is the nominal frequency used in power generation, transmission, distribution, and electrical equipment for industrial and domestic use, measured in Hertz (Hz). In China, the line frequency is 50 Hz, while in some countries, it is 60 Hz.
